5 Days Left to Pay:
Property Tax Deadline Is Dec. 11
San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister reminded property owners today to pay their taxes before Dec. 11 or face a hefty penalty for late payments.
“So far, we have had 45 percent of taxpayers send us $1.4 billion in first installment payments,” said McAllister, “but we’re coming up on the deadline, and we don’t want anyone to have to pay a 10 percent penalty for being even a minute late.”
Online payments will be accepted until midnight on Dec. 11, since the normal delinquent date of Dec. 10 falls on a Sunday. Taxpayers should log on early and give themselves plenty of time to complete a payment before the midnight cutoff.
Payments can also be made by phone at 855-829-3773 or in person by visiting any of the five branch offices. Mail payments must be postmarked Dec. 11 to be considered on time.
“More and more people are choosing www.sdttc.com as their preferred payment method because it is secure, fast and easy,” said McAllister. “I encourage everyone to skip the lines at our branches and go online.”
In September, the TTC sent out 993,821 tax bills, which are expected to generate $6.05 billion for the County of San Diego. Compared to last year, that is 4,732 more bills and $370 million more in charges.
Property taxes are due in two installments. The first is due on Nov. 1 and is delinquent after Dec. 11, 2017, and the second is due on Feb. 1 and is delinquent after April 10, 2018.
