Bidder Registration Opens Today for New Online Property Tax Sale Auction
Timeshares Available Starting at $900
Bidder registration opens today for San Diego County’s first online property tax sale auction, San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced.
People worldwide can register on the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s (TTC) tax sale website, sdttc.mytaxsale.com, in the run-up to the auction, which will take place May 5 through 10.
Before the tax sale, you must register as a bidder and submit a refundable $1,000 bid deposit, as well as a non-refundable $35 processing fee. The last day for bidder registration is April 27.
“Go online now to make sure you can take part in this exciting event, or risk missing out on the great deals we have on more than 1,500 properties,” McAllister said. “We’ve done extensive research, and this is the best platform that fits our buyers’ needs: easy to access and secure.”
Currently, there are 345 improved and unimproved properties and 1,220 timeshares – some starting as low as $900 – available for auction. All sales are final, so this is a buyer beware sale.
“Not only will this online auction make it easier for people to bid on and win properties, it will also open the auction up to a worldwide audience,” McAllister said. “We hope that will help us sell more parcels and timeshares that in turn can begin generating taxes for the county once again.”
Sixty properties have owners still living on them. Owners of the for-sale properties have until 5 p.m. on May 4 to pay back taxes and fees to avoid going to sale. Over the past five years, TTC notices and late bills to these owners have not been responded to. In early April, each of the properties will be personally contacted by TTC staff who will warn them again of the impending sale.
The TTC has not held a tax sale auction since 2015, and on average, sales have generated more than $1.1 million each year.
