Unclaimed Monies

Each year the Treasurer-Tax Collector and other County departments have thousands of dollars that go unclaimed.  After several years of no claim being received the funds are escheated.  While the County works to return these monies to the rightful owner, some refunds remain unclaimed. 

Here is the list of unclaimed monies that will be escheated if a claim is not received by November 30, 2022.  Search the list below to see if you are owed a refund, and follow the instructions to file a claim.

Claim a Refund

STEP 1

Find your name or parcel/bill number on the Unclaimed Property Tax Refund list above. 

STEP 2

Fill out the Unclaimed Property Tax Refund Claim Form or the Unclaimed Money Form. Detailed instructions and information are included with the form.

You must SIGN the claim form or your claim will be returned. Make sure you have read the instructions and made copies of all required documents.

STEP 3

After completing and signing the claim form, email it to refunds@sdcounty.ca.gov or mail it to:

Deadlines

Any property tax refund that remains unclaimed for four years may be turned over to the County's General Fund, according to state law. Before the money is transferred, we try to give people one last chance to claim it.
