Canceling Penalties

State law requires all property owners to pay penalties if property taxes payments are late, so they can only be canceled in very limited circumstances outlined in the law.

You can request a penalty cancellation in writing or by submitting a completed and signed Request for Cancellation of Penalties form.

In general, we will respond to a request within 4 to 6 weeks in writing. Requests may take longer during peak period collection periods around the delinquent dates.

If the request for penalty cancellation is approved, we will respond in writing, confirming the cancellation. If the request for penalty cancellation is denied, we will respond in writing, explaining the reason for the denial.

Our office has created a special form for COVID-19 related late payments. Visit our COVID-19 page for more information.
