Need for new facility arose after the 2024 storms flooded County Administration Center County Treasurer urges taxpayers to use color-coded envelopes for quicker property tax processing.

SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego County Treasurer Larry Cohen unveiled the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s new property tax mail processing center during a ribbon cutting ceremony held there today.

Located in Mission Valley, the need for the new facility arose after the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s former payment processing center in downtown’s waterfront County Administration Center was flooded during the historic 2024 southern California storms.

“The 2024 floods forced us to move and find other, better facilities, and this is what we have here.  The new payment processing center is the most secure, accessible, and functional of the properties we considered,” County Treasurer Cohen commented.

“We opened just in time for 2nd Installment Property Tax payments. We hope that people will pay online at sdttc.com because that’s the quickest and most secure way to pay,” continued Cohen. “But if you do mail your payment in, please use the special color-coded envelopes we provide with your bill. Our office handles hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail each year. By using these envelopes, our machines can process 7,500 payments an hour and reduce your check processing time from 10 weeks down to 48 hours upon receipt of payment – that’s an incredible reduction in processing time.”

“I would like to thank our entire project team who made this move possible, including the team at the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office, Commercial Builders Inc, Cushman & Wakefield, Paragons, Cypress Office, Peraton, AT&T, CWS and Opex. Your hard work and coordination enabled us to open in time and to better serve San Diego property owners,” concluded Cohen.
