Nearly 99% of Property Taxes Collected Across More Than 1 Million Parcels

SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Larry Cohen, MBA, announced that property owners paid nearly 99% of the $9.8 billion in property taxes charged for the fiscal year—a record amount that helps fund the essential public services residents rely on every day.

This year's property tax charges increased by nearly $700 million over last year's $9.1 billion, funding continued investment in San Diego County's communities.

"Every property tax payment helps strengthen our communities," Cohen said. "Property taxes provide critical funding for our public schools, law enforcement, fire protection, libraries, parks, roads, public health programs, and many other essential services that residents depend on every day. We're grateful to San Diego County property owners for consistently meeting their obligations and helping make these vital services possible."

More than one million parcels throughout San Diego County are assessed property taxes each year, making property taxes one of the largest and most reliable funding sources for local governments, schools, and special districts.

Cohen also encouraged taxpayers to take advantage of the office's free online payment system for future tax payments.

"Today, about 75% of our customers already pay online using our free, secure e-check option," Cohen said. "Our goal is to make paying property taxes as convenient as possible. Paying online is fast, secure, environmentally friendly, and provides an immediate confirmation that your payment has been received. We encourage every taxpayer to visit sdttc.com to view and pay their property tax bill."
